What is wintering? (Reminder)

Winterizing means protecting your pool from the harshness of winter, protecting the infrastructure and keeping the water healthy so you can enjoy it when the sun comes back out. There are two methods: active wintering and passive wintering. They’re all different, but they all share a common goal: keeping the pond in good condition.

Active wintering

If the filtration system has been left running throughout the winter (active wintering), restoring the pool will be quick and easy, without too much effort. All you need to do is adjust the filtration time and clean the pond thoroughly. Next, you’ll need to replace all the accessories you removed, before checking the pH of your water, and adjusting it if necessary.

Passive wintering

If, on the other hand, your pool was passively winterized, you’ll need to restore it to its original condition by following a few additional steps. First of all, you’ll need to clean your pool (not forgetting the water line and the area around the skimmers).

Steps to follow to restore your pool after wintering

These stages are divided into two parts: technical and aesthetic.

Technical section

You’ll need to replace the skimmer baskets if you’ve removed them, and raise the water level if you’ve lowered it below the discharge nozzles during the winter.

Once in the machine room, the first step is to reinstall the pump and filter system, depending on the model of your filter system. Once you’ve restarted the engine, check that there are no leaks and that the filter is correctly balanced. If this is not the case and the pressure is insufficient, the pump may be blocked. Then clean it thoroughly.

Otherwise, if the pressure is too high, the valves may not all be open, or the filter may also be dirty. Finally, don’t forget to reconnect the trunk if you have a protective shutter.

By following these steps, you’ll be able to restore your pool to its former glory, leaving you with clear water ready for summer refreshment.

Aesthetic part

After a period of wintering, your pool won’t be in top form, so you’ll need to pamper it so that it’s ready for the summer season.
