We recommend restarting your pool as soon as the water temperature is around 10-12°C. However, if you use an electrolysis salt treatment, you must wait until 15°. If you have carried out your wintering correctly, restarting the machine will be a simple formality. As a general rule, this takes place in March/April (depending on your region), when the water temperature is still low and algae have not proliferated.
Putting the pool back into service after an active wintering period
If you have carried out an active winterization (i.e. left the filtration system running all winter), this means that you have been able to maintain water quality. The return to service will therefore be a straightforward process.
- Adjust daily filtration time according to temperature.(Filtration time = water temperature/2 + 1)
- Clean the walls with your wall brush, and the water line with water line cleaner (even if it doesn’t look dirty to you).
- Check pH and adjust if necessary (a correct pH is between 6.8 and 7.2).

-
REMOVE EQUIPMENT
- Winter cover: first remove any water pockets or leaves from the cover or shutter. When removing the cover, it’s best to do so with several people (minimum 2), each positioned on one side of the pool. This is so that it can be folded correctly after the anchors have been removed.
- Wintering floats (to protect the basin)
- Gizzmos
-
CLEANING THE POOL AREA: DECK AND COPING
Then clean the decking and coping, working from the coping outwards. The use of a high-pressure cleaner will help you remove moss, which can form during the winter. If necessary, scour the joints.

CHECK THAT THE WATER LEVEL IS ¾ OF THE WAY UP THE SKIMMERS
-
PREPARE TECHNICAL INSTALLATIONS
4.1 Checking the electrical box
- Set programming clock to summer filter times
- Check fuses and contactor
4.2 Restarting the filtration system
Pay particular attention to your pump when restarting it. If it makes an abnormal noise that persists after 1 hour of use, the bearings are probably seized. They must then be replaced immediately.
4.3 Checking the sand filter
- CLOSE ALL VALVES (SKIMMER, BOTTOM DRAIN, BRUSH CONNECTION, 6-WAY VALVE), OPEN THE SAND FILTER LID AND POUR THE DESCALER INTO THE SAND FILTER.
DESCALER INTO THE SAND FILTER
(FOR QUANTITIES, REFER TO PRODUCT INSTRUCTIONS). THEN LEAVE FOR 24 HOURS WITHOUT RE-FILTERING. - Wash and rinse filter.
- Put filtration back into daily operation.
-
PREPARE THE POOL WATER
If the water is cloudy, treat with
flocculant
which will increase the efficiency of your sand filter and clarify the water. Next, check the water balance first, i.e. alkalinity (TAC) and then pH, for effective disinfection. Ideal values are between 12 and 15°f for TAC and 6.8 to 7.2 for pH. To restore your TAC, use a
specific alkalinity product
As for pH, add
pH minus
or
pH plus
depending on the result obtained. For your information, pH rises rapidly in the days following recommissioning. Also, if you use chlorine treatment, check the stabilizer, which should be 30mg/l maximum.
Then, if your water is dirty, we recommend that you use a
shock treatment
(bromine, chlorine or active oxygen, depending on your pool treatment) and follow the recommendations indicated on the products for optimum effectiveness.

CLEANING THE POOL
If wintering has been carried out correctly, the water should be clear. However, some plant waste may have settled to the bottom of your pool. Use a hand broom to remove them. The pool cleaner (electric, hydraulic or other) will then come into action, for regular in-season maintenance.
