As winter approaches, it’s a good idea to cover your pool with a pool cover to protect and secure it for the cold season. There are several types. But how do you choose the right winter cover for your pool?

Why use a pool cover in winter?

A winter pool cover is useful not only for maintenance, but also for safety, as it protects the pool and helps prevent accidents. A pool cover is also an excellent way of extending the pool’s lifespan. It protects the water from external pollutants such as leaves, insects and branches, as well as from fungi and algae that can develop out of season.

How to choose the right winter cover?

Focus on quality

Toensure the effectiveness of your swimming pool winterizing cover, it’s essential that it’s of good quality. The pool cover must therefore have the following characteristics:

  • Be thick and strong. The winter pool cover must not deform over time;
  • Be perfectly opaque;
  • Be equipped with a sturdy, wind-resistant fastening system;
  • Install a drainage system with filtering so that rainwater runs off easily.

What type of winter cover should I choose?

There are two types of winter pool protection:

  • The opaque waterproof or semi-waterproof cover: this PVC pool cover blocks the sun’s rays and prevents the growth of algae and other germs. It is recommended for total wintering;

  • Filter cover (net or grid): non-waterproof, this rot-proof winter pool cover retains most of the waste, but allows water and light to pass through. This pool cover is lighter and easier to handle. It is ideal for active wintering and corresponds to very rainy regions.

There is also a version of the opaque tarpaulin with bars, as well as motorized security roller shutters.
